P.I. Experience

June 22, 2006 · Leave a Comment

It's up to you what the acronym stands for. :P

I've been taking P.I. 100 this 1st sem and have bought some reference materials like Etikang Tagalog and Ang Ikatlong Nobela ni Jose Rizal for the price of approximately P200. Don't worry, I'm planning to resell it at a 40-50% discount. :D

So what's the P.I. 100 experience? It involves taking a journey to the monuments of Jose Rizal within the walls of Palma Hall. It is also the time where you go and walk at the edges of a fishpond and travel over the ledge near the photocopying machine in front of the ChemSoc room. We ended having a class at one of the AV rooms of FC. I was surprised when the prof called me to recite the answers I had written last week on the questions "Sino Ako?" and "Si Rizal, Pilipinas, World Cup". It was also the time when I crossed paths to a classmate I had in my EL 50 class about 2-3 years ago. Both of us were called as well as 2 other students. The discussion was fun except for the feeling of standing for about half an hour (reading the contents of our paper + interactions). Afterwards, I headed to the place where my college friends were waiting.

Little did I know that the burnout effect was still on me. Thanks to Vanie and James for walking in the same pathway, if not for them I would have totally lost my Starbucks planner. (Yes, with a lot of personal stuffs in it. haha) It was also a dangerous scenario when I rushed to the FC where a dog was sleeping nearby. Well, obviously I slowed down, walking – afraid that it might run after me. I have arrived at the AV room where the prof was alone, (thank God) and the planner was still in place. Whew!

This was a part of the P.I. experience. PI it really was. Again, it's up to you what the acronym stands for. :P

Burnout

June 21, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I don't know if it's just the hot weather that's making me act like crazy but I was somewhat in the state of burnout lately. This kinda made me recall the song Burnout, one of the great songs (and music video) of the band, Sugarfree.

So is it me or is it just extremely hot nowadays? Hmm..

Google Earth Beta Version 4

June 19, 2006 · Leave a Comment

The screenshot below shows Google Earth running on Ubuntu DapperDrake with the map of UP Diliman. Actually, the points show the buildings I have traversed today in about 1.5-2 hours of walking. Well, the last point was not included for privacy purposes. Wanna try travelling the same path in less time? :P

GIMP Mosaic Plugin, gone?

June 14, 2006 · 2 Comments

I have this friend who's currently working on some photo mosaic so I recommended him to use GIMP (since it's free and open source) and just install the photo mosaic plugin by pointing him to my post. My friend then noticed that the page he's looking for before was gone! There was no download page or any update about the plugin except for the same link with a short text about some patent information.

Sigh, I thought that the plugin was free and open source. Is that goodbye then? :(

Do you know any free/open source alternatives for photo mosaic creation?

First Day Sigh

June 13, 2006 · Leave a Comment

First day! Sigh.

Yes, my first day was somewhat happy and disappointing at the same time. I got my dream schedule – both the subjects and the profs as well (almost). In my first class, I was surprised upon seeing the prof I had in my Span10/11 class last year as she entered the room because I was not expecting the same prof for my Span12/13. As the names were being called (to distribute class cards), it looked like she was surprised too upon encountering my name (obviously because I was her student before), haha. I walked towards the table and suddenly she asked me about some thing (in Spanish language). Well? I didn't understand her (oh no!) so she translated her question to English. Haha, now that means I need to review everything just like taking a final exam in Spanish! Argh!

After my first class, I proceeded immediately to the UP Theater for the Freshies Assembly and luckily, I was able to sit with the ILIS freshman block even though the seats were almost full. Actually, it's my first time to watch that kind of event because my first was in UP Manila. The entire program was great, especially the singing/dancing/etc performances of the different UP orgs. The only negative impression I have about it was that there were people who somehow invite freshies to become activists/rallyists indirectly. The thing is, if you're a scholar, you're expected to become active – not by joining rallies, but by achieving in acads! I heard the same chant that knocked me from my sleep – it's like the one that I had heard a long time ago originating from the demonstrations in front of the St. Peter's Church. Nah, enough of those stuffs.

Lastly, I have a problem in one of my ILIS electives. It turned out that there was a conflict of prof-subject assignment (or whatever you call it). Now, the solution(?) was to have the subject in a Saturday class at 10-1pm (no lunch break?). Obviously, there'll be conflicts in the rescheduling of the course but the proposal was like this: if at least 15 students want to have the course in a Saturday, then that'll be the final sched; if not, the subject will be dissolved. What?!?! What are the grounds for dissolving subjects? I thought that consequence only applies to courses with less than 10 enlisted students? Where do you think is the problem here? Argh!

Am I happy then? Maybe, maybe not. Now read this article and see if you're happy at this moment. :P
