Are you using an earlier version of Firefox 2.0?
Well, not me for I’m still using the 1.5.X series on Ubuntu. Upgrading to the latest version of this popular browser’s actually very tempting but I got stumbled upon the news that there were reports of mass email deletions on Gmail via Firefox 2.0. Scary?
Luckily, I’m still lazy on updating my Firefox. Besides, I still have Opera, Konqueror, Flock, and even Internet Explorer on Linux via CrossOver. It fascinates me to test web services through each of the browsers to check for web standard compliance. Oops, that reminds me of my thesis proposal. Argh!
On the lighter side of the Firefox security issue, the problem was already fixed in its 2.0.0.1 release. Now that’s what you call effective turn-around time!
Perhaps we should be more careful as security’s becoming more complicated just like the worsening case of spam emails. It’s also recommended to check security websites such as Security Focus.
For short, always be careful. Be safer (than IE), get Firefox.

Argh! Wasted Efforts?!
Actually, the night before the event, I made it sure that I had 2 sets of batteries and storage cards ready but all of it was just wasted in my view. I was so excited to photoshoot but it backfired to me by the time I was informed of the cancellation of the UP Diliman Lantern Parade 2006. It was very disappointing.
It was so chaotic that there were lots of versions of the reason for the cancellation. I guess it was pathetic to mix politics with a traditional event of enjoyment for the UP community. So what is the real reason behind the cancellation? Who’s to be blamed here?
On the lighter side, I still managed to get some shots even though my mind was already out of the photoshooting mode.
The UP Institute of Library and Information Science featured Happy Feet-Linux Tux as their mascot and was able to make it to the 2nd place for the exhibit/booth award.
There was also a demo of Open Source Softwares in our booth.
So that’s all folks! The pictures are at my Zooomr Smartset and Dotphoto account. Check it out and let me see your shots too!

Have you ever encountered a blog troll? Blog trolls play a major role in the blogosphere. You can find definitions from Webopedia, Urban Dictionary, a FAQ, and even a law on the common blog troll. Interesting, isn’t it?
They are actually ‘good variables’ to having a better understanding of the effects of blogging to society. It’s another reason for me to choose such a topic in one of my electives. Unfortunately, the prof handling the subject was absent which made my group’s case harder because we needed to consult her about our topics and she was absent twice already.
Anyway, I’d like to show you some examples of blog trolls in the blogosphere. You can find them at Ryoga Chronicles and technoeuphoria!. Actually, I have the same troll at my blog and I envy him/her for having time for trolling around.
On the lighter side, maybe blog trolls increase blog traffic. What do you think?

And I thought the conflict was over.
Last week, we had been notified by our thesis proposal instructor that the case on our section was reopened. If I remember correctly, unfortunately, both thesis proposal sections will still be dissolved in their final say. It’s also strange as to what the UP administration’s basis was on dissolving our sections. For heaven’s sake, it’s a prerequisite for thesis! Do they want us to get delayed? Actually, we had been told before that if the section had at least 6 or 7 enlisted students, the section will not be dissolved, but now it’s just weird that the class will stay to be unstable even though both sections satisfy their requirement.
“The world is so dreadfully managed, one hardly knows to whom to complain. – Ronald Firbank”
True enough, I really don’t know to whom I should complain to about this. It seems that Computerized Registration System (CRS) has no significance at all as far as this case is concerned. Obviously, the time for doing change matriculation’s over – so why complicate things? Now, they’re suggesting to merge both sections and get a common free schedule fit for the enlisted students of both sections. Wow! And what do you think are the chances of having such a free sched that shall fit for all of them? A night session? Nah, and that’s why I had organized my schedule before in such a way that there’ll be no night subjects for me.
It’s actually more difficult to organize because I can’t even remember if there was an output of the enlisted subjects in schedule format after its final run. Right now, CRS is down again (as usual?) which only means that you won’t be able to check your grades if you have not claimed your class cards yet. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get half of the cards for last sem and most of the departments had announced that the issuance of cards will resume next semester. In addition to the announcements, they suggest checking the grades via CRS. But where’s CRS again? I really have no idea.
On the lighter side, I have installed a Ta-da list RSS to remind me (or everyone) of my deliverables. As of the moment, there wasn’t a single topic that was approved in my group in one of my electives. It was actually our second time to pass the list and it was somewhat pointless. The problem with it was time management for it appears that we should devote more time to it like more than my thesis proposal course or majors. Well, I just don’t know if I’ll be giving up one of my electives; it will just depend on what will happen this month.
Maybe I just need to be more careful next time, but I think I’m careful enough already. Perhaps, it’s just a simple case of bad luck. Oh well.
