This Blog’s Reading Level: High School

November 24, 2007 · 2 Comments

When it’s all about measuring blog traffic and readability, I usually test not only this blog but also including my other blogs on various domains. After getting a peek on my Netvibes aggregator, I stumbled upon a blog readability test from the Filipino Librarian’s Blog. So how was it?

Of course I started with my main blog, The Armorer’s Codex:

High School? Does this mean that I’m using a high school level (only) of vocabulary for this blog? Maybe not, for I also tried the other blogs I have including those that were not updated anymore.

For my previous WordPress.com-powered blog, The Armorer’s Scroll and my Comix account on Vox, here’re the results:

Only a slight difference? Here’s the case of my lyrics (senti) blog, Lauds and Lyrics:

What?! You need to be a genius to understand the lyrics of songs? Weird! After getting this result, I decided to test again my blog through its main domain, and here’s what I got:

So, which is which? :)

Got Balls or Walls

…of Initiative?

It was like a bulb that flashed from out of the blue when I suddenly realized that this was the only simple but very important thing that I had emphasized as my expectation or request in one of my organizations in its first meeting of the school year last semester. So how does this abstract idea work in an organization?

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon CDs

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon CDs,

Fabulous! If I remember correctly, this was the first time that the Ubuntu CDs were delivered directly to my mailbox instead of receiving a package notification and getting it to the nearest postal office. The service was somewhat fast for I got the package not more than a month after requesting it plus the fact that the Gutsy Gibbon was just released last month.

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a copy of this Gibbon!

Starbucks Planner 2008

Starbucks Planner 2006/2007

Finally, the much awaited Starbucks Planner’s released today! Well, I guess I wouldn’t need one although it’s also great to have something to doodle on aside from my smartphone. :)

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly HDD

Bad HD

To get rid of the ugly spirits inside my machine, I finally decided to replace my bad-sectored hard disk drive with a better one that’s more reliable. In fairness, it lasted for more than 5 years. Not bad, huh? Unfortunately, I was not able to recover all of the files, and worst – they were photographic files that were taken 5 years ago. Ouch.

On the lighter side, I was enlightened ;) on how a HDD works when I stumbled upon this ACM Queue HDD article through Netvibes. What a coincidence! :)

Of Dates and Memories

November 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Remembering my Psychology 101 class, Less Sleep Results in Memory Loss. This phenomena somewhat happened to me last semester. And it looks like it has also (infected?) affected my system:

Creative Screenshot

…although my System Monitor displayed that it has still memory left for consumption (red & yellow box) while the blue-tinted box processor’s on 99.9% usage already. Perhaps I just need a faster machine or better hardware. My setup already crashed twice for some undetermined reasons. Also, I need a more user-friendly system logger. Any ideas?

Now, to keep my senses running, I listed down the dates that I should remember for the 2nd semester (Nah, not the kind of dates you’re thinking!), special thanks to a friend for giving me the link to the UP Academic Calendar for me. Haha! Talked about bum-ness.

  • Nov. 5 – General Registration
  • Nov. 6 – Starbucks Planner (as if! haha!)
  • Nov. 8 – World Usability Day @ UP
  • Nov. 9 – Start of Classes
  • Nov. 12 – Deadline for colleges to submit approved list of candidates for graduation
  • Dec. 3 – Deadline for filing application for graduation
  • Dec. 17 – Deadline for colleges to submit tentative list of Candidates for graduation
  • Dec. 20 – Christmas Vacation
  • Feb. 12 – Last day to clear deficiencies

I’m on ‘acads’ mode ;) starting today…seriously. Well, my semester only consists of at least having a thesis subject, an LIS elective, and my last PE. I’m still thinking if I’ll prerog on another course – a CS/Math/Psych/PE subject.

A few seconds after typing this post, I only realized that Nov. 9 (Friday) marked the first day of classes! Argh! O_O
